The collective action problem, in which misinformation prompts individuals to engage in self-interested behavior, which causes societal harm, poses a serious challenge. In recent years, there have been cases in which corrective information, intended to mitigate the problem, has paradoxically exacerbated the problem because of 'pluralistic ignorance.' To tackle the collective action problem arising from corrective information, it is crucial to adopt a strategy that dissuades self-interested behavior by providing people with relevant information. A certain number of individuals may be persuaded to adopt the desired behavior through the dissemination of inhibitive information, grounded in altruism and reciprocity, especially if the information is persuasive. Organizations aiming to address the collective action problem require a mathematical model to offer quantitative insights into the effectiveness of the information and the conditions for its dissemination. However, existing mathematical models could be more suitable for describing this problem and strategy. Therefore, this paper constructs a new mathematical model using subjective logic and cumulative prospect theory. |
