Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Having your hand held or touched by person close to you can induce feelings of comfort and alleviate stress. However, in isolated environments such as hospitals or solitary households, people may not be able to have human contact. To address this, we propose a robot that can hold hands on behalf of people. In this paper, based on fieldwork in a hospital, we propose a method to evaluate the stress level by the strength of holding the robot, and prototype a hand-holding robot. We tested the relationship between the strength of user holding the robot and stress levels, and found that the robot is held with less force in task condition than rest condition. In the future, we will examine the effect of handholding robot which operates at the timing when the strength of user holding robot becomes weaker.
