A Study on Deadline Scheduling Scheme Based on Adaptive Feedback in Distributed Edge Computing

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, delay-sensitive Internet of Things (IoT) services (e.g., automatic driving and remote control of robots) have attracted much attention. These IoT services have deadline constraints. Edge computing has been proposed to meet such deadline constraints. In edge computing, when an edge server (ES) receives a service request from a user, it executes a data collection and processing to generate feedback. If the task cannot be completed within the deadline time due to user access congestion, the task is divided into subtasks and offloaded to neighboring ESs or cloud server. These operations allow users to use various IoT services. However, the network and computing resources are limited. Therefore, it is an important issue to effectively utilize limited network and computing resources to maximize deadline achievement rate of IoT services in edge computing. We previously proposed a deadline scheduling based on feedback delays in edge computing. However, it may degrade deadline achievement rate of IoT services due to queue occupancy by some feedback on ESs. Moreover, we can expect that the deadline achievement rate of IoT services will be improved by adopting task aggregation in edge computing. In this study, we propose a new deadline scheduling scheme based on adaptive feedback in edge computing. We show the effectiveness of proposed scheme through simulation evaluations.
