In LoRaWAN, performance is optimized by gateway’s assignment of the spreading factor (SF) of chirped spread spectrum to each terminal. However, when multiple gateways in close proximity attempt optimization independently, performance would considerably differ among them due to differences in characteristics such as terminal placement, traffic demands, and control disciplines. Since the total optimization is difficult by direct or coordinated control of networks providing different services, in this paper, we propose a method to improve the fairness between networks by indirect control. For this purpose, we take an inspiration from the biological symbiosis where multiple species competing the same resources can live together under dynamically changing environments. In our proposal, the amount of available network resources is regulated in accordance with amount of traffic of LoRaWAN networks to achieve the requested packet delivery ratio in 90 % duration of time. Simulation evaluations show that the proposed method successfully improves the fairness among networks. |
