In recent years, various technologies have been developed toward the practical application of fully automated driving. Automated vehicles recognize vehicles, pedestrians, and other objects based on measurements of the surrounding environment by onboard sensors such as cameras and LiDAR, and perform necessary control. On the other hand, it has been pointed out that there are attacks that can affect the measurement process of in-vehicle sensors. In our research, we have shown on a simulator that vehicle detection can be misled in a continuous scene by partially missing point clouds, which are the output of in-vehicle LiDAR. We also showed that it is possible to intentionally make the point cloud missing by attaching an infrared-cut film to the vehicle in the real world. In this paper, we show that an infrared-cut film can be used to create a Stealth Car in which the vehicle cannot be detected in continuous scenes in the real world. Specifically, we verify that the point cloud of a vehicle with an infrared-cut film attached, acquired by a LiDAR model called VLP-16, can mislead the vehicle detection model. This will make it clear that it is necessary to consider countermeasures against such attacks when fully automated driving is put into practical use. |
