Brain Function Modeling Focused on Glial Cells in Relation to the Sensation of Loneliness

(in English) This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of loneliness, which has become a serious social problem, from the viewpoints of cognitive science and neuroscience. In particular, we focused on "glial cells," which have recently been suggested to influence various higher-order functions such as emotion, and hypothesized that their functions may be involved in the loneliness mechanism. We constructed a cognitive science layer model and a neuroscience layer model based on the cognitive science layer model, and conducted simulations in the program layer that connects these two layers. We were able to represent the vicious cycle of loneliness by transforming the function of glial cells. Validation suggested that glial cells are essential for the loneliness mechanism, supporting the hypothesis. These results are expected to provide new clues to a fundamental solution to loneliness.
