In Japanese handwriting practice, it is not unusual for students to develop a dislike of handwriting because of the boring process of writing the same character over and over again. We have proposed and implemented a method that plays a melody in response to handwriting strokes in order to make such character practice fun and effective. However, the conventional system does not function well as a constraint for tracing a character model, because the sound is played no matter where the pen is placed on the screen. In this study, we improved the method so that the sound stops when the handwritten strokes are beyond a certain distance from the stroke in the model, and conducted an experiment to study the effect of this change. The experimental results showed that the sound presentation linked to the model slowed down the speed of handwriting practice, and that handwriting practice that fell within the range of the sound presentation increased. |
