Embedding is a frequently used method in nonlinear time series analysis for analyzing EEG. To determine the necessary parameters, an embedding dimension and a time delay, correlation integration and autocorrelation function are commonly used. However, these methods can be sensitive to noise. To address this issue, permutation entropy, a noise-robust method, was used to estimate the parameters. The optimal embedding dimension and time delay were found to be $5$ and $39$ms, respectively. Additionally, the cumulative distribution function of permutation entropy enables differentiation between sleep stages that are challenging to classify using linear time series analysis. |
