Study on a Plain Japanese Translation Application using OCR Azusa Hosoda, Teppei Miura (NITTC) WIT2023-41 |

Japanese language is one of the most complex languages in the world. Although some plain language translation systems exist in recent years, these systems need more usability because they require users to input complex Japanese sentences. We develop a web application for plain language translation using OCR for input sentences. In the evaluation, we conduct a reading comprehension test from the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for six international students at our college. The students use three methods: the proposed application, the existing system, and not using anything. The results show that the proposed application increases understanding comprehension; however, it requires more time to answer. |
