The paper presents a study where wavelet analysis is employed to estimate the temporal location of a target test sound’s generation. For the efficacy of the estimation method, it is advantageous to utilize a non-deterministic signal, such as a pulse waveform, which exhibits significant amplitude and frequency variations within a brief timeframe. Schlegel’s green frogs demonstrate temporal fluctuations in pitch frequency, with corresponding changes in formant frequency. The frogs’ vocalizations were selected for the experiment due to their compliance with the test sound criteria. However, as these vocalizations were recorded in natural settings, they contained noise, necessitating noise reduction processing. Subsequently, non-integer Brownian motion with 1/f characteristics was superimposed on the frog’s voice to estimate the temporal location under a signal-to-noise ratio of -8.5 dB. The analysis, conducted using Haar wavelets, proved to be an effective method for detecting the temporal location of the frog’s voice, even under low signal-to-noise ratio conditions. |
