Determining whether respiration information can be measured under driving operation using smart seatbelt buckle signals

(in English) In recent years, driver conditions have been monitored using biometric signals to prevent traffic accidents. One such system is the smart seatbelt buckle (SSB), which incorporates a sensor device in the seatbelt buckle to measure respiration. However, there is a problem that breathing information cannot be extracted correctly due to body movements during driving. In this study, we proposed a method to determine whether a certain interval of SSB signals can be used as a respiratory waveform (i.e., whether respiratory features can be extracted properly) using machine learning, and evaluated the effectiveness of the method through experiments using a driving simulator. As a result, the method was able to determine with an accuracy of approximately 80% whether or not the SSB signal had a disturbance in a certain section.
