There are warning whistles that alert deer and prevent collisions with vehicles. The sound must be loud enough for the deer to perceive it before the vehicle approaches the deer. The sound that are loud enough for deer to hear at a distance without being drowned out by environmental noise or road noise can become noise both inside and outside the vehicle. In order to prevent the warning sounds from becoming noise, a method has been proposed that uses a parametric loudspeaker to deliver sound only in the direction the vehicle is traveling. In this method, because the parametric loudspeaker is composed of many ultrasonic oscillators, it consumes more power than direct radiator loudspeaker, and there is concern that it will put a heavy strain on the vehicle’s battery. Furthermore, even if the amplitude of the input signal as a modulating wave is zero, in the case of amplitude modulation, a modulated wave with an amplitude half the maximum value is input to the ultrasonic oscillators, consuming power. This paper reports the results of an investigation into the power consumed by parametric loudspeakers and the modulated wave and playback sound of dynamic carrier modulation, which can reduce power consumption by varying the amplitude of the carrier wave according to the input signal level. |
