In this study, we proposed and evaluated a route planning method that allows an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) communicating with an access point (AP) to achieve higher throughput under distance restrictions related to longcut route. The target system is that AMR, which moves from the starting point to the destination, always communicates with the AP at high speed to process the data necessary for driving at the edge server. Given the need to get closer to the AP to maintain high-speed communication, we are more likely to obtain high throughput by taking detours that bring us closer to the AP rather than proceeding along the shortest route to our destination. However, no routing algorithm has ever been proposed for terminals that constantly communicate with APs. For terminals that can move freely, such as AMRs, it has only been possible to follow the shortest route to the destination. In the proposed method, we create a longcut route by dividing the shortest route and the route with the theoretically highest throughput. We evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively and found that a longcut route of only 30% of the length relative to the shortest route length yielded up to a 43.8% improvement over following the shortest route. |
