| （英） | The current study aims to examine an effect of pronunciation training using Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) on L2 learners’ listening ability. We examined the effect with three types of words: those with /l/ and /r/ phonemes, loan words, and those that were difficult to pronounce, with Japanese learners of English. During the training, participants were asked to pronounce a word presented on the computer screen to ASR, which provides them with real-time feedback on their pronunciation. The results of the word recognition test showed that the accuracy of comprehending the trained words decreased significantly after one week, suggesting that the training did improve their comprehension of these words, but the effect was not sustained over one week. The results of the identification test showed significant improvement in distinguishing minimal pairs with /l/ and /r/ phonemes after training. They also showed no significant difference between the post-training test and the test after one week, suggesting that the effect persisted over a week. Our study demonstrated that pronunciation training with ASR effectively improved L2 learners’ recognition of the words that were trained as well as the words with /l/ and /r/ phonemes that were not trained. | |
