| 抄録 | （和） | Native speakers of English are susceptible to agreement attraction, in which ungrammatical sentences due to agreement violation, such as *The key to the shelves were rusty, are erroneously processed as acceptable because of the intervening number-matching noun. However, non-native speakers whose native language does not have agreement are immune to agreement attraction in such sentences and are susceptible to it only in structurally complex sentences, such as relative clause sentences like *The teacher who instructed the students were very strict. The present study examined whether semantically complex sentences containing an attractor with the universal quantifier every, which requires semantically complex processing due to its distributive interpretation (notional plurality), also provoke susceptibility to agreement attraction for non-native speakers of English whose first language lacks agreement. |
