Is Generative AI an Artifact? -- Considering from the Perspective of Bias Theory --

(in English) Generative AI is rapidly spreading, and conversational technology, in particular, has become widely available to the general public. Generative AI learns from data created by humans, which means its responses can reflect human biases. For example, reports from NASA have highlighted the existence of social biases related to race and gender. Generative AI is likely to incorporate these biases when predicting linguistic relationships.
This paper focuses on cognitive biases rather than social biases. Cognitive biases are inherent to humans and have characteristics that are often difficult to notice. Therefore, we conducted experiments on representative cognitive biases using three types of generative AI to determine whether they also exhibit cognitive biases. The results confirmed that each generative AI model, despite differing in form, possessed some degree of cognitive bias.
In the future, as the scope of what generative AI learns expands, the nature of its biases may change. Additionally, the meaning of these biases can vary depending on the user and the context in which the language is used.
Since generative AI exhibits both cognitive and social biases, it is difficult to perceive it purely as an artificial construct. However, if efforts are made to eliminate these biases, the responses of generative AI may become more recognizable as artificial creations.
