Japan Coast Guard (JCG) operates SGO-A, which is a seafloor crustal deformation observation network using GNSS-A. GNSS-A is a method of detecting crustal deformation of the seafloor by repeated acoustic ranging between a GNSS-positioned station and a seafloor station. For reducing acoustic ranging errors, JCG and the University of Tokyo conducted two tank experiments. The results of the experiments indicated that the standby time at the seafloor station differs from the actual standby time. The results of the experiments indicated that the standby time on the specification at the seafloor station differs from the actual standby time. It was also revealed that the cause of the waveform degradation of the acoustic waves depends on the characteristics of the electronic circuits and sonars. Based on these findings, a new algorithm for acoustic signal waveform reading, the AAR (Acoustic Ambiguity Reduction) method, was developed. This paper reviews these results. |
