Adaptive Traffic Monitoring Method According to State of IP Networks

(in English) Our goal is to optimize networks based on advanced data analysis by accurately collecting and storing big data on communication traffic at an analysis center. In this concept, it is necessary to transfer a large amount of traffic data generated on the network to a remote analysis center equipped with a high-performance server. In this case, the communication bandwidth of the bypass portion of this transfer could become a bottleneck. Therefore, this study proposes an adaptive traffic monitoring method that changes the granularity of traffic monitoring according to the network conditions to reduce the amount of collected data under the assumption that there is a communication bandwidth limitation in the bypass portion where the traffic is collected. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, we conducted computer simulations of a scenario in which anomaly detection is performed. The results showed that the proposed method can reduce the amount of data collected by about 85% to 95%, while maintaining almost the same level of accuracy in anomaly detection as the method that monitors all traffic.
