Study on Low-Complexity Hazardous Material Identification Method Using Density-Based Clustering in Sub-THz-band Imaging

(in English) The 300 GHz sub-THz wave has a wavelength of approximately 1 mm, enabling tomographic imaging at a desired distance with a high resolution of less than 1 cm in the near field, and is expected to be used in security applications such as hazardous material detection. However, to locate the depth of a hazardous object, it is necessary to generate images focused on each depth, which requires an enormous amount of computation. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity hazardous material identification method to reduce the computational complexity of depth location by dividing the data roughly into elevation, azimuth, and distance directions and applying a clustering method based on data density called DBSCAN. The results of analysis using measured data show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the amount of computation by more than 80% while maintaining the detection capability.
