Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Autonomous driving utilizing higher Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) has been expected to be resolving the social problems such as the shortage of drivers in transport sector and maintaining mobility in rural areas against an ageing society in Japan. As driving control is taken over to system beyond level 2, many more sensors are required to detect obstacles surrounding a vehicle instead of the human. One of these, Radio detection and ranging (Radar) has been regarded as an important role for achieving Autonomous driving because of its robustness against weather condition compared to that of other sensors such as camera, Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR), and ultrasonic sensor. On the other hand, because Radar has been known for detecting fewer points of obstacles compared to that of LiDAR, the imaging performance for recognizing the shape of an obstacle is inferior to that of LiDAR or camera. However, in recent years, the imaging performance of radar has become better than before thanks to the advanced technologies of integrated circuit design, smaller size antennas using millimeter-waves (such as 60 GHz, 76 GHz, and 79 GHz band), such types of modules have been seen more than before in the market. In terms of software development, the high-resolution algorithms have been proposed, making smaller size of radar module possible. In this paper, we propose the key technologies especially focusing on their improvement of imaging performance for automotive surround-view Radar aiming toward higher ADAS level.
