Stress Reduction Method for Self-Driving Car by AR Information in Obstacle Avoidance

(in English) Autonomous Vehicle Stress refers to the anxiety or discomfort that arises when the results of the perception and decision-making processes of an autonomous driving system are not shared with passengers, making it difficult for them to predict vehicle behavior. Reducing such Autonomous Vehicle Stress is crucial for realizing comfortable autonomous vehicles in the future.

In this study, we propose a method for sharing information related to the perception and decision-making of autonomous driving systems using augmented reality (AR). Information related to "perception" includes external obstacles that may affect vehicle behavior, while information related to "decision-making" includes the intended actions and predicted routes of the autonomous driving system. By sharing this information, passengers can intuitively and clearly understand the vehicle's behavior, thereby potentially reducing Autonomous Vehicle Stress.
To implement AR-based information presentation inside the vehicle during autonomous driving as described above, it is essential to consider the relationships and alignment between the vehicle in motion, the passengers, and the external environment. Therefore, this study involves the development of an AR information presentation system through preliminary experiments and its validation using an actual autonomous vehicle.
