Attention-based Travel Time Estimation for Hiking Reflecting Hiker's Walking Ability

(in English) Hiking is a popular activity, but mountain accidents remain a serious issue.
Accurately estimating hiking travel time is an important factor in preventing such accidents.
Traditional methods for estimating hiking travel time have focused on modeling the relationship between slope and walking speed, while deep learning approaches have also been explored for arrival time prediction.
In addition, attempts have been made to improve prediction accuracy by incorporating hikers' walking abilities into the models.
This study proposes a deep learning model using an Attention mechanism to account for hikers' walking abilities.
As a result, the proposed method outperformed existing hiking speed estimation methods, achieving state-of-the-art accuracy.
