The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is widely used in signal analysis and processing. A special class of windows, called tight windows, make the STFT-domain signal processing robust to noise. In this study, we examine the global optimality and usefulness of the tight minimum-sidelobe (T-MS) windows, which were designed via manifold optimization but are not yet guaranteed to be globally optimal as solutions to nonconvex optimization problems. We derive a sufficient condition for the global optimality from an equivalent quadratically constrained quadratic program (QCQP). Specific T-MS windows satisfy the sufficient condition and have superior performance in separating signals of different amplitude and frequency. |
