[Invited Talk] Evaluation of optical fibers using linear optical sampling and application to LiDAR

(in English) To overcome limitation of transmission capacity of single-core SMFs, MCF, MMF, and MM-MCF have been studied intensively. Since the transmitted signals are demodulated through MIMO processing, the spatial mode dispersion and coupling strength between cores determine the load on the MIMO processor. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the spatial mode dispersion in advance for DSP design and implementation. The aforementioned transmission impairments can be evaluated by measurement of the impulse response of the fiber under test. This presentation will report on the measurement of fiber impulse response using linear optical sampling and the results of research on two-dimensional linear optical sampling of fiber spatial modes. Additionally, recent LiDAR research using linear optical sampling with a CW light reference method will be discussed. Such LiDAR is expected to be applicable to high-definition 3D infrastructure inspection.
