Cost Reduction for 3D Modeling Using Spherical Panoramic Images

(in English) To realize smart city, automated driving systems, etc., it is necessary to utilize digital twins. However, since it is essential to install multiple LiDAR sensors and cameras at various locations and construct 3D models obtained from physical space data, installing those sensors involves various costs including human, time and economic costs. In this manuscript, we propose a method to reduce the above costs and the amount of communication data by generating 3D models from spherical panoramic images taken by 360-degree cameras instead of 2D images obtained from cameras. In addition, we demonstrate the possibility of reducing the number of cameras to be installed and the amount of images data to be transmitted by simulation based on the proposed method, and discuss the conditions for generating a 3D model with high accuracy.
