Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have been developing and providing a mission-critical video transmission service, leveraging our high-quality and highly reliable wide-area communication infrastructure as a telecommunication carrier. This service involves the development of a nationwide, uninterrupted, low-latency closed network dedicated to video transmission, along with an operation system to monitor and control these networks. Our service ensures the reliable and stable transmission of critical life-saving information, such as information about earthquakes and typhoons, through a 24/365 maintenance system that includes preventive maintenance, rapid fault response, and security measures. However, the complexity of our system has increased due to the integration of new features to meet customer needs, such as external connections to cloud services. Furthermore, in terms of security, the increase in external connections has revealed the limitations of perimeter-based security. With numerous vulnerabilities being discovered daily and attack methods becoming more sophisticated and malicious, the demands on operators to handle incidents and require high-level security skills have intensified. In this paper, we introduce our efforts to enhance security by combining Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) for endpoint monitoring and Network Detection and Response (NDR) for network monitoring. We also discuss the use of open-source projects for automatically and continuously detecting and managing new vulnerabilities. Finally, we share our experiences and insights gained from implementing measures such as fault cause estimation and searching design documents and past incident records in an on-premises environment, aiming to improve maintenance efficiency in line with the trend of generative AI, while considering security.
