This paper considers some system with operating period with random variable and stopping period
with a constant interval, and it consists of one unit. We consider some optimization problems of duration time of the stopping period. The system operates its primary jobs in operating period,
and might fail in the period. It is repaired in stopping period and the repair time is given as random variable. It might be delayed to start again the next operating period when its failure is not repaired within the stopping period. We propose some models for such a system. (i) Cost minimization model:
We consider loss cost of its failure and repairment, and discuss optimal duration time of the stopping period which minimizes the expected loss cost. (ii) Profit maximization model: The system has some income besides its loss cost, and the profit is a difference between the income and the loss cost.
For each models, we treat the cases that operating period has a constant period and the duration time has a probability distribution. We discuss analytically the optimal duration time of the stopping period which minimizes the expected loss cost and maximizes the expected profit. |
