Various localization methods have been studied using the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), which can be obtained from Wi-Fi access points(AP), for indoor environments where the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) cannot be used. We have been developing an indoor localization system based on Weighted Centroid Localization (WCL) used in Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT). However, WCL-based localization suffers from the number and placement of APs, which significantly degrades localization accuracy in some locations. Therefore, this report aims to improve the localization accuracy by combining WCL and Fingerprint (FP). A section estimation method is introduced to determine which localization method, WCL or FP, should be used. We evaluated the localization accuracy of the proposed method using RSSI data measured on the second floor of TUT’s D building. The result shows a maximum improvement of 5.66 m average error and suggests that a movement intervals greater than 4 m for a section estimation is required. |
