Progress indicators such as progress bars are widely used to reduce users’ perceived waiting time during web page loading. In our previous studies, we investigated how progress bars displayed during loading screens influence users’ tendency to abandon the page. However, the effects of waiting time duration and variations in progress bar speed were not sufficiently controlled, leaving their specific impacts unclear. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a between-subjects experiment with multiple conditions combining different average waiting times and progress speed variations, and analyzed their effects on user behavior. The results revealed that when the waiting time was approximately nine seconds and the progress bar animation started with a slow initial speed, users were more likely to abandon the page and reported lower satisfaction. |
