(in English) In recent years, there has been growing interest in mental health, and an increasing number of companies are taking initiatives to support the psychological well-being of their employees. Chronic stress is known to have a significant negative impact on both well-being and overall health, highlighting the importance of its assessment and management. However, conventional biomarkers for chronic stress, such as cortisol measurements, are time-consuming and labor-intensive, making them unsuitable for routine stress monitoring. Therefore, the development of alternative methods for chronic stress monitoring is urgently needed.
In our previous research, we explored the potential of using facial near-infrared (NIR) imaging acquired in daily settings to assess chronic psychological stress. However, due to the absence of clear stress-related events, the estimation accuracy remained insufficient. Given the difficulty of artificially inducing chronic stress, this study utilized the natural tension experienced before and after academic presentations as a proxy for chronic stress conditions. The objective was to collect facial NIR images during this period and to extract features related to chronic stress from these measurements.
