Proposal of a story structure extraction method using Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) -- Through text analysis of web novels --

(in English) The “semantic structure” of many stories accepted today is an important clue to understanding the dominant values in our society. Structuralisim analysis of narrative has long served as a useful tool for this purpose. However, the classical approach of painstakingly reading and analyzing narratives has its limitations. In this study, we propose a method for extracting the semantic structure of a story using latent semantic analysis （LSA）. Two web novels in the genre of “villainess reincarnation novels,” which have become popular among young people in recent years, were selected for the analysis. An appeal structure diagram based on the extracted story structure is presented, and the semantic structure and appeal of the “villainous daughter reincarnation novels” are also discussed.
