A study on indoor drone positioning using Wi-Fi RTT based on ESP-IDF

(in English) When drones fly autonomously, they often use GPS to obtain their own location information. However, stable autonomous flight becomes difficult in places where GPS is inaccurate, such as indoors, so other positioning methods are required. We focus on positioning using Wi-Fi RTT as an alternative to position estimation using GPS indoors. We have investigated indoor drone positioning using ESP32 wireless microcontrollers, which are easy to deploy as Wi-Fi RTT terminals and access points. In this paper, we demonstrate indoor drone positioning using Wi-Fi RTT with ESP32 wireless microcontrollers based on the ESP-IDF development environment and evaluate the accuracy of the position estimation.
