This paper studies permutation XOR cellular automaton: a three layer dynamical system where the input-to-hidden layer corresponds to an elementary cellular automaton of the XOR rule and the hidden-to-output layer is one-to-one permutation
connection. The dynamics is described by an autonomous difference equation of binary state variables. Performing precise numerical analysis, we have found that, depending on the dimension, the PXCA generates various direct stable binary periodic orbits characterized by long period and strong stability. As a fundamental step to engineering applications, we have fabricated a simple FPGA based hardware prototype and have confirmed typical periodic orbits experimentally. |
