In this paper, we investigate a weighted least-squares positioning method in ranging-based positioning systems. When the Gaussian process of ranging errors are assumed, a positioning based on the maximum likelihood criterion leads to the nonlinear least-squares estimation. However, it is necessary to define hyperparameters for the mean and variance of the Gaussian distribution. In this paper, we focus on the variance hyperparameters and introduce the ????-order polynomial regression model. Numerical experiments using measurement data available on IEEE DataPort show that the introduction of weights based on the regression models improves positioning accuracy. The second-order and later multinomial regression achieved
the same level of improvement, indicating that the method is highly versatile. |
