Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This project is conducted under the framework of JST’s ASPIRE program and aims to establish an international research and development network for the comprehensive study of medical applications of AI (Medicine × AI). The research themes include what we consider to be the core challenges in Medicine × AI: prediction, genome analysis, explainable AI (XAI), and applications of large language models (LLMs). In addition, we will implement essential functions required to address these challenges, such as multimodal integration, data imputation, data augmentation, and data generation.
A distinctive feature of this initiative is the strong participation not only of AI researchers from Japan and Germany, but also of a large number of Japanese medical researchers. This collaboration is expected to enable the development of methodologies that physicians themselves can trust and accept.
To promote brain circulation, we will implement X-type international human resource development—a unique scheme in which, for example, a master’s degree is obtained in one country and a doctoral degree in the other. Through this approach, we expect to foster a robust research network shaped by individuals who have experienced academic exchange across both Japan and Germany.
Furthermore, our partner organization, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), is characterized not only by conducting academically valuable AI research but also by successfully establishing it as a viable business. This feature provides strong potential for industrial creation based on research outcomes.
