Estimation of Permittivity and Conductivity of Ultra-Lightweight Electromagnetic Wave Absorbers and Its Application to Material Design

(in English) We investigated a methodology for enhancing the performance of carbon nanotube (CNT) composite electromagnetic wave absorbers by deriving target values from theoretical analysis and comparing them with the materials’ permittivity and conductivity. First, we calculated the design space for the permittivity and conductivity of a 5 mm thick absorber achieving absorption performance above 10 dB or 15 dB in the frequency range of 27.5-29.5 GHz. Next, the electromagnetic properties of CNT-composite materials were estimated and compared against the design space. This result demonstrates that it is possible to enhance the absorption performance by reducing the materials’ conductivity. Furthermore, materials with improved CNT dispersibility were fabricated, and the absorption performance in the target frequency band was enhanced. Therefore, this result demonstrated the validity of the proposed approach.
