Recent advances in drone technology and civilian millimeter-wave radar technology have garnered attention for drone-mounted millimeter-wave synthetic aperture radar (SAR), which combines the two. Compared to aircraft and satellites, a major advantage of drones as SAR platforms is their flexible observation capabilities, which take advantage of their maneuverability and irregular flight trajectories. While conventional platforms typically perform observations based on linear flight, drones offer a highly flexible trajectory for SAR observations, including circular and other curved orbits, as well as vertical trajectories. This paper focuses on this point and reports the results of a fundamental study aimed at reconstructing images of targets using circular SAR (Circular SAR: CSAR). This paper outlines the drone-borne SAR developed by the authors' research group, presents the results of CSAR image reconstructions targeting corner reflectors and automobiles, and compares them with point cloud data acquired by LiDAR. |
