Wireless Communication for Ultra-high-speed Train Utilizing 5G

(in English) A method for applying 5G to ground-to-vehicle wireless communication in an ultra-high-speed train was investigated. Experimental verification was conducted using an actual train traveling at 500 km/h. Using antennas with directionality parallel to the train’s direction of travel at both base station and mobile station, not only can the propagation distance be extended, but countermeasures for Doppler shift can also be simplified. By using only the synchronization signal to estimate the Doppler shift amount, there is no need to add a dedicated reference signal for correction, enabling efficient communication with reduced overhead. Experimental verification using a Sub-6 GHz band 5G prototype was conducted on an actual ultra-high-speed train, confirming the effectiveness of the methodology adopted in this research. Stable throughput of approximately 50 Mbps over distances exceeding 1 km and approximately 14 Mbps over distances exceeding 6 km was achieved in both downlink and uplink directions.
