As the demand for programming education at universities and other institutions has grown, the limitations of individual instruction by a small number of instructors have become apparent. While pair programming and peer reviews, where learners influence each other, are considered effective solutions, they often fail to adequately address the realities of practical exercises, such as the variations in programming logic among learners and differences in their skill levels. Particularly, while the importance of discussions among learners is recognized, the difficulty of forming groups with desirable member compositions during exercises remains a challenge. This research proposes methods for supporting discussions in programming exercises by introducing “simulated members” utilizing generative AI. Specifically, we emphasize organizing groups with learners possessing different programming logics and aim to achieve meaningful discussions by intervening with simulated members when required members are lacking. This paper outlines the support framework and describes methods for grouping learners considering differences in programming logics and constructing simulated members using generative AI. |
