Support for Activating Self-Regulated Learning Processes in Research Activities

(in English) In creative activities, it is important for learners to actively regulate the cyclical process of self-regulated learning (forethought, performance, and self-reflection). This study treats the trial-and-error activities inherent in daily research as learning resources , and proposes a framework to foster better self-regulated learners. Specifically, we examine a framework that views self-regulated learning in research activities as three layers: (1) problem-solving activities in research, (2) self-regulated learning processes that control them, and (3) meta-learning activities through which learners acquire metacognitive knowledge from these experiences. Based on this, we developed a system that organizes the cognitive artifacts of research activities as a map consisting of "questions" and "answers," and explicitly describes the means-ends structure as a resolution plan aimed at answering these questions. By reflecting on their own self-regulated learning through the evolution of this map, learners are encouraged to construct metacognitive knowledge from their trial-and-error experiences.
