AI-based traffic generation becomes one of promising solutions for augmenting network attack traces due to the lack of high-quality and publicly available dataset. There have been existing studies that apply diffusion models to traffic generation. While these studies implicitly assume long flows composed of a thousand of packets, emerging slow DoS attacks are based on short flows composed of tens of packets. In the diffusion model, such short flows are represented as images with limited vertical resolution. As a result, flow-specific features tend to be lost due to information loss caused by the image down-sampling operations inherent in diffusion models. To address this problem, we propose a method that enables the generation of short-flow-based attack traffic by using training images constructed through vertical concatenation of multiple short flows. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach through a case study on generating Slowloris DoS attack traffic. |
