In recent years, the use of coded language by anonymous and fluid criminal groups on SNS and online platforms has made it difficult to detect crimes until after harm becomes apparent.
Therefore, there is a growing need for methods to capture early signs of societal attention toward such crime-related terms.
In this paper, we propose an analytical framework that positions search behavior as an indicator of online user dynamics, focusing on low-frequency components of Google Trends time series.
By applying low-frequency analysis, we extract long-term changes in interest while suppressing short-term fluctuations and evaluate latent relationships among keywords through correlation analysis.
Our results show that for certain keywords, low-frequency components exhibit sustained increases even before they gain widespread social attention.
Furthermore, this approach reveals keyword associations difficult to capture through rapid spikes in search volume, suggesting its effectiveness for capturing latent societal interest and exploring newly emerging criminal terms. |
