BCAM-Net for Robust IoT Spectrum Sensing under Generalized Gaussian Noise

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Spectrum sensing is essential for cognitive radio dynamic spectrum access (DSA) and for mitigating spectrum scarcity in IoT networks. In practice, robust sensing is challenged by low SNR and non-Gaussian impulsive noise, which can distort observations differently across feature modalities and make multimodal fusion unreliable. To address this issue, noise is modeled using the generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD), and BCAM-Net (bidirectional cross-attention multimodal network) is proposed. BCAM-Net adopts two parallel branches: a time-frequency branch that extracts representations using the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and a temporal branch that learns long-range dependencies from raw received signals. A bidirectional cross-attention module aligns and calibrates features between the two branches to obtain a fused representation that is robust under complex noise. Simulation results under GGD noise show that BCAM-Net improves detection performance in the low-SNR regime and outperforms several representative baselines. It achieves a 90.20% detection probability exceeding CNN-Transformer, WT-ResNet, TFCFN, and CNN by 5.75%, 6.98%, 33.30%, and 21.10%, respectively. These results suggest that BCAM-Net is effective for spectrum sensing under low-SNR impulsive-noise conditions.
