[Short Paper] Manpu-Guided Facial Emotion Recognition for Manga Characters

(in English) In manga emotional expression, not only facial expressions but also unique symbolic representations called "manpu" play a crucial role. However, conventional approaches have primarily focused on facial images alone, leaving manpu information largely underutilized. To enhance emotion recognition accuracy, this study proposes a classification model that integrates textual features based on manpu class names with facial image features. Evaluation experiments using Manga109, KangaiSet, and a novel manpu dataset constructed from these sources demonstrate that combining facial image features with manpu textual features improves recognition accuracy compared to using facial images alone.
