[Invited Talk] Urban Digital Twin Construction via 3D Mobile Crowdsensing

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we present an overview of a 3D mobile crowdsensing (3D-MCS) framework, including its key component technologies, current implementation, and ongoing development status, for continuously maintaining an urban digital twin (UDT) by collecting point clouds as spatial information through the cooperation of people in urban environments. The 3D-MCS framework consists of the following core technologies: (1) spatial sensing that combines active and passive models, (2) spatial information management based on geocoding, and (3) dynamic point cloud integration into the UDT. In addition, the framework enables real-time web-based visualization of spatial information. In addition to these technologies, we discuss several extensions of the 3D-MCS framework, including age of information (AoI)-aware sensing, selective point cloud transmission based on AoI to reduce communication overhead, spatial information management incorporating edge-cloud collaboration for UDT updating and distribution, and multi-hypothesis UDT construction. In the multi-hypothesis UDT construction, a UDT constructed through a specific procedure is treated as a hypothesis, and multiple construction hypotheses are maintained in parallel to suppress erroneous UDT formation. Finally, we outline future research directions.
