This report investigates millimeter-wave backhaul communications for high-mobility platforms such as trains and automobiles, where high-capacity communication is required to accommodate traffic generated by a large number of users. Because these platforms typically follow linear travel paths that allow line-of-sight propagation, the use of broadband millimeter-wave bands is considered highly suitable for such applications. In this report, we examine millimeter-wave backhaul communications for high-mobility scenarios using distributed multiple-input multiple-output (D-MIMO) technology, in which multiple antennas are deployed along the travel route. In particular, we address the challenge that frequent antenna switching caused by high mobility induces abrupt changes in Doppler shift and propagation delay before and after each switching event, and we introduce a proposed Doppler and delay pre-compensation scheme applied at the base station transmitter to mitigate these effects. The effectiveness of this scheme is evaluated through simulations, and experimental results obtained using a vehicle traveling at a speed of 100 km/h are also presented. |
