Measurement of Reflection Characteristics of Shear-Deformed Artificial Magnetic Conductor Yoshiaki Ogawa, Hitoshi Shimasaki (KIT) MW2026-18 |

For the application of artificial magnetic conductors (AMCs) to wearable devices, it is desirable that they possess sufficient flexibility to conform to body movements. In this study, changes in the reflection characteristics of an AMC under shear deformation were experimentally investigated using AMC reflectors. The unit cells constituting the reflector had dimensions of 15 mm × 15 mm × 3 mm, and consisted of an FR-4 dielectric substrate with a frequency selective surface having a square ring with four inner square patches. These unit cells were periodically arranged in a 36 × 30 array to fabricate two types of AMC reflectors: one without deformation and the other subjected to a shear deformation of 11°. The reflection characteristics of these reflectors were measured and compared to evaluate the effects of shear deformation. The results confirmed changes in polarization conversion, bandwidth, and resonant frequency. |
