Currently, drones are utilized in various scenarios, with their application expected to expand to both indoor and outdoor environments in the future. However, the realization of drone-based services faces a significant technical challenge: the limitation of long-term operation.
This paper investigates a method that employs Visible Light-based Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning to facilitate wireless power transfer via laser, based on the acquired positional data. By integrating RTK positioning with laser-based wireless power transfer while an indoor drone is in flight, it is possible to provide power during operation. This approach is expected to extend the operational time of indoor drones.
The proposed method was evaluated in terms of the increase in operating time when wireless power transfer is performed during flight, as well as the coverage probability—the likelihood that the laser-based power supply exceeds the drone's power consumption. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed system successfully increases the operational time of indoor drones and achieves a high coverage probability. |
