In wearable sensing, research has been conducted on estimating three dimensional body shapes by networking multiple inertial measurement units (IMUs).
However, the use of numerous IMUs degrades wearability due to the need for individual batteries and complex wiring.
In this paper, we propose a shape reconstruction method using an IMU that eliminates the need for individual batteries and wiring by utilizing two-dimensional communication via conductive fabric to supply power and transmit data.
The communication protocol employs a token-passing scheme to avoid packet collisions, and we have implemented a pipelined processing method in which IMU data acquisition and quaternion conversion are performed while data is being transmitted from other IMUs.
This enabled shape reconstruction while maintaining a sampling rate of 50 Hz.
We evaluated the tracking performance and shape stability in response to dynamic changes through experiments using conductive fabric with IMUs arranged in a grid pattern. |
