We study a sensor pairing method for online target tracking based on time-difference-of-arrival~(TDOA) measurements through a sensor network.
Existing static pairing designs aim to improve the average localization accuracy over the entire region.
In online tracking, however, changing the pairing to the local neighborhood of the current target estimate is beneficial.
The proposed dynamic sensor-pairing method selects $K$ pairs at each time step in an $N$-node sensor network ($K ll binom{N}{2}$).
Sensor pairs are selected to minimize tracking uncertainty while satisfying communication constraints.
The resulting problem is formulated as a convex optimization and efficiently solved via a primal-dual splitting algorithm.
The selected pairs are then used with an existing TDOA position estimation algorithm.
Simulation results under both uniform and distance-dependent noise models demonstrate that the proposed method achieves lower tracking RMSEs than baseline methods. |
